Sin of Ignorance by Abram and Sari

Curse Ends After One Hundred Years

Flesh / Heart Circumcised!

Today’s Parshah included the curses, the blessing…the do and don’t of life. We must remember that it is not God that brings penalty of the curse or blessing upon us, but it is us who have chosen what will happen. The rules of life are laid out and WE CHOOSE to obey the do or don’t.

When we got to the verse about a man not marrying his sister, it seemed like a very logical ruling. But, then I thought of Abram who had saved his half sister out of the hands of Nimrod by taking Sari with them when they left the Ur (fires) of the Chaldea.

Why is it that they never had children for what seemed like a lifetime to them…100 years.

Why is the number 75 so important in the patterns of history laid out by our Creator?

This may be an article that leaves more questions than answers, but after hearing several comments on the ‘whys’ of Abram’s and Sara’s perplexing story today, I decided to write my thoughts down to try to make sense of it. What, to make sense that the old ways didn’t apply to Abram as they had not been given The Torah yet? Perhaps…but they did have personal instruction. This Armenian will become the father of nations. His example was to be followed…or was it.

Abram did not become Abraham until Abram circumcised himself in the flesh. Babies are named on the Eighth Day when circumcised. Yeshua was brought to the temple after Mary’s cleansing time was up. Even John’s name was declared when he was eight days old. This tells us we will have new names confirmed to us in eternity…known as The Eighth Day.

The breath of Elohim came over Abram and Sari and ADONAI changed their names to Abraham and Sarah. The letter ‘hei’ can be even felt when said. You do not say ‘hei’ breathing in, but breathing out. It’s pronounced like the word, hay.

So, until our Creator came on the scene to end the curse of marrying your sister…even a half sister…as Abram and Sari had the same father but they had different mothers. Genesis 12:20

Abram was ten years older and took responsibility for her when they moved away from the idols being made by his very own father, Terah, and his other half brothers. Abram was the only child born to Terah’s first wife. Abram was cast off by his half brothers and hid by his mother living in a cave said to have been taught by Shem. Yes, it will be Abram that will set fire to his father Terah’s idol factory blaming it on the ‘unknown’ god. Eventually, Terah, Abram, Sari and Lot leave that area for grave misbehavior to Nimrod’s idol projects.

Thus, no matter what the intent of marrying his half sister…good of bad…we see that Deuteronomy was applied to them as they had no children.

Deuteronomy 27:22  ” ‘A curse on anyone who has sexual relations with his sister, no matter whether she is the daughter of his father or of his mother.’ All the people are to say, ‘Amen!’

Did Abraham already know this ruling? Is it only revealed 400 years later at Mt. Sinai so the Israelites, foreigners and strangers did not follow their founding father’s example? I know Abram was trying to save his own skin and it was not a lie. Sari was a prize woman. He had saved her life and now she was called upon to save his life.

As we read the Genesis 20 account we see Abimelack respected the god of Abram. His own household had their wombs closed while Sari was among his herim. YHWH caused him to never touch her.

Genesis 20:3  But God came to Avimelekh in a dream one night and said to him, “You are about to die because of the woman you have taken, since she is someone’s wife.”

Genesis 20:6  God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in doing this, your heart has been pure; and I too have kept you from sinning against me. This is why I didn’t let you touch her.

Abram is the intercessor. He prayed to God.

Genesis 20:17  Avram prayed to God, and God healed Avimelekh and his wife and slave-girls, so that they could have children.

Genesis 20:18  For Adonai had made every woman in Avimelekh’s household infertile on account of Sari Avram’s wife.

We will still see Abram living around King Avimelekh and Pikhol the commander of his army in Genesis 21:22. They could see that over these years that God was with Abraham in all that he did.

Yes, the curse had been lifted. But, would there be more children for Abraham? He had been promised a heritage that would number the stars…simply meaning lots and lots of people…multitudes.

How did the curse lift? How does our curse lift? Circumcision! That cleansed flesh would produce Isaac when Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah would be 90 years old. Abraham would cleanse all his families flesh because his own heart had been circumcised. It had turned soft unto The Lord…ADONAI. This is when the curse is crushed and their marriage could produce fruit. And, yet The Torah stood…it proved to be true.

They could not have children while living in the flesh, while living out of God’s will for man. No one could look back and say…”But, YHWH made an exception for Abraham.” YHWH did not make an exception. A purified heart lead to purified skin physically seen in the flesh. Circumcision lead Abraham to The Land.

It was Abram’s faith that brought forth a son through a half sister. A sister that had to even sacrifice herself for her husband. She had also proved her love for Abram her brother. It was relying on YHWH that their marriage grew into a true love for each other. Yes, they each had been willing to sacrifice to keep each other alive on the earth. In their faith, they broke the curse of Deuteronomy 27:22. It was broken after Abram walked out his faith for 100 years and Sari 90 years.

Abraham was hidden in caves the first ten year of his life. He learned The Instructions of YHWH via the greatest teachers on earth…the teachers from Shem. In that wilderness the child Abram grew into a spiritual giant that even set a city on fire to get rid of idols.

What idols do we see in our lives? Buddha figures for good luck. A wall full of our children’s pictures so they feel more important than perhaps they are worthy?

What are our idols? In the land of Israel many historical sites are controlled by Arabs. They are not allowed to be glorified with visitors centers on them. We are to have no idols before us. Even to this day, we don’t really know the site of the crucifixion, the birth place of Jesus and much more.

What happens when people think they are so righteous and beyond reproach? Yes, they will fall from their righteousness. Does each curse need to be spelled out? And, because it is not in writing does that give license to remove common sense?

I believe we could assume God’s instruction would say, “A curse to anyone who has sexual relations with his brother or sister’s child.”

Do we have to have an updated version of Mt. Sinai instructions? Maybe so, because selling sex is beyond measure….instead of calling a woman a prostitute we just say she sells sex…A Slave to Sex. Sex Trafficking is an official business term in our world.

Does a brother have sexual relations with his brother’s daughter? Does he give his daughter over to his brother? God forbid is what I say!

And, what did we say in the beginning. Who gets blessed or cursed? The person chooses. Standards of righteousness were set upon our earth since the days of Adam..Noach..Shem…Abram…

Our Patriarch’s guidelines still apply to us. The pattern has never been broken.

These are the days of Teshuvah… Yes, the word means REPENTANCE. I can ask for the forgiveness of my transgressions…my families transgressions, unknown transgressions…even future transgressions. We REPENT because we have a holy ELOHIM that can NOT tolerate sin. The penalty of sin is covered by Yeshua’s atoning blood. But, there is still no forgiveness of sin without repentance.

Abraham was blessed during his life to prove that YHWH was real. Abraham was guilty of a ‘sin of ignorance’. Had it not yet been revealed to him that he could not marry even a half sister? It took one hundred years for that curse to lift off him. Then in the next 75 years he would have over 100 children accounted to him that could sit on his knee. Yes, in the next 75 years children would explode from him and the rest is still becoming history. Yes, again as we are his children as well and we are numbering as the stars.

Abram left Haran at age 75. He would spend another 24 years walking the earth to have his every footprint claimed to become his inheritance. That means that all that follow in his footsteps can claim that inheritance. At age 99 The Promise came…the curse would be lifted…the penalty had been paid. Now, a sister could be A Bride.

We are that Bride my friends. We are brought into this world living under a curse. The pattern of blessing or cursing is our choice. We have the benefit of looking back to all their examples…good or bad. We can see Abram and Sari were out of step. The curse lifted when they accepted new names.

We are to have the breathe of God added to us…that is the Holy Spirit in us. Now we can breathe freely and walk correctly being lead by The Torah…which simply put…YHWH’s instructions…laid out from the beginning…continually being reminded of…so we an live safely on our earth.

Abraham and Sarah had some extra attendants attached to their lives. We are those attendants. The Good News to the Gentile is that they get to attend the wedding. They are grafted into the same promises of kinship to The Groom.

The Instructions were always there. It was Abram and Sari love for each other that built them as a couple that others wanted to be blessed as well. Their relationship was challenged and proven.

Let us close with these thoughts…what did King Abimelack realize? He wanted peace with the man and woman of God.

Blessings for Obedience from Deuteronomy 28

Deuteronomy 28:1  “If you listen closely to what Adonai your God says, observing and obeying all his mitzvot which I am giving you today, Adonai your God will raise you high above all the nations on earth;

Deu 28:2  and all the following blessings will be yours in abundance—if you will do what Adonai your God says:

Deu 28:3  “A blessing on you in the city, and a blessing on you in the countryside.

Deu 28:4  “A blessing on the fruit of your body, the fruit of your land and the fruit of your livestock—the young of your cattle and flocks.

Deu 28:5  “A blessing on your grain-basket and kneading-bowl.

Deu 28:6  “A blessing on you when you go out, and a blessing on you when you come in.

Deu 28:7  “Adonai will cause your enemies attacking you to be defeated before you; they will advance on you one way and flee before you seven ways.

Deu 28:8  “Adonai will order a blessing to be with you in your barns and in everything you undertake; he will bless you in the land Adonai your God is giving you.

Deu 28:9  “Adonai will establish you as a people separated out for himself, as he has sworn to you—if you will observe the mitzvot of Adonai your God and follow his ways.

Deu 28:10  Then all the peoples on earth will see that Adonai’s name, his presence, is with you; so that they will be afraid of you.

Deu 28:11  “Adonai will give you great abundance of good things—of the fruit of your body, the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your land in the land Adonai swore to your ancestors to give you.

Deu 28:12  Adonai will open for you his good treasure, the sky, to give your land its rain at the right seasons and to bless everything you undertake. You will lend to many nations and not borrow;

Deu 28:13  Adonai will make you the head and not the tail; and you will be only above, never below—if you will listen to, observe and obey the mitzvot of Adonai your God

Deu 28:14  and not turn away from any of the words I am ordering you today, neither to the right nor to the left, to follow after other gods and serve them.

Abraham’s children are now 73 years old. They will walk out his pattern. At age 75 what did Abraham and Sara do? Who went with them? What does this represent for us today?

25 years later, the ‘your only begotten son’ was born.

37 years after that “your only begotten son’ was to be killed by your own hand Abraham.

Sari died at age 127. Isaac is now 37 years old. (It is told that she died after moving away from Abraham after he tried to kill her only son, Isaac.)

Isaac lives in his mother’s tent. Isaac is age 40 when Abraham finds a bride from Sarah’s family. Rivkah (Rebecca) is brought to Isaac at Sarah’s tent.

Abraham lived 75 more years…being credited with a total 100 children he knew before he died at age 175. (100 + 75) Genesis 25

Abraham lived 48 years longer than his bride, Sarah. Abraham’s numbers would grow and return to their land in 1948 AD. He was alive 1948 years from creation.

Yishma’el lived 137 years growing his nation.
