Exodus 18 Jethro, Moses father-in-law, came to visit Moses in the desert and brought with him his daughter & Moses wife, Ziporrah and their two sons. They shared tremendous stories of victory over Egypt. Jethro said : Exo 18:11 Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods. Jethro also advised Moses to appoint able men to hear any legal cases that came up between the people, rather than wear himself out doing it all himself. He also admonished Moses to teach the people:
Exo 18:20 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
Ex 19 On the third month after the children of Israel left Egypt, they came to the base of Mount Sinai. Exo 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: Exo 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
Exo 19:8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do . (Famous last words). The Lord told Moses I will descend upon the mount in fire, in thunder, in lightning and earthquakes, like a great furnace of smoke. Sanctify & prepare the people on the third day I will do it.
Ex 20 The 10 Commandments.
The people were terrified of the sight and sounds from Mt Sinai. Exo 20:18 And all the people saw the thundering, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
Exo 20:19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
IS 6&7 Isa 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. This is Isaiah‘s vision of the holiness of the Lord, and his own unworthiness. This portion also speaks of judgment of the people, and a return of a remnant or one tenth.
Isa 9:6 The future redeemer: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Matt 19. This is the story of the rich young ruler who came to Jesus, Yeshua and asked what must I do to have eternal life? And Yeshua reviewed the 10 Commandments. Mat 19:17 And he said unto him, but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Comments: I think these passages talk about the great awesomeness and power and holiness of our God. I think our lesson is to not take a relationship with God casually, but serve him with all our heart and reverential fear. And train ourselves to listen to his voice and be obedient children. It all comes down to do things his way and in his timing. Please read the portion yourself and exam your own heart before God. There’s always some improvement we can make. Be aware of HIS calendar and of the important dates that recur each month. Shalom. by Glory Girl
