So in our last Torah study the Israelites had left Egypt, crossed the Red Sea, made it to mount Sinai where they receive the 10 Commandments. Now God is going over a lot of his commands with Moses. This portion covers treatment of slaves, personal injury, ox goring a person, property theft, theft of animals, restitution, do not take a bribe, do not oppress the alien, do not deny justice to the poor.
Ex 22:16 Many laws regarding virgins, and not having sex with an animal, be sure to read that paragraph.
Ex 23:10 let the land rest every seventh year. Every person works six days a week, but on the seventh all rest including animals and slaves.
Ex 23:14 The three annual festivals: the feast of unleavened bread for seven days, the feast of harvest of first fruits, and the feast of in gathering at the end of the year. Three times a year all the men are to appear before the Lord.
Ex 23:20 God says he is sending an angel to go ahead, pay attention to him, do not rebel against him. If you listen and do all that he says God will drive out all the enemies before them and give you the land. Then God makes this promise:
Exo 23:25 And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.
Exo 23:26 There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.Ex 24. Renews the blood covenant God made with the people.
Ex 24:3 again the people say “we will do all the Lord commands.“. Moses and the 70 elders approach Mount Sinai. Moses alone is called to go up and visit with the Lord face-to-face. He stayed on the mountain 40 days and nights. Matt:
Mat 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
Mat 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
Mat 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Mat 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
My comments. God makes it very clear he wants things done his way and in his timing. He structures many laws concerning our day-to-day lives and getting along with our neighbors, and treating each other fairly and justly. I am excited to look ahead to the feast of Purim. We are living in very unstable times. I think if we fast and pray God will also do a miracle for us. He wants his will done on earth as it is in heaven. But we have to fast, obey & pray it in. Shalom.
