David’s Comment: Time for a ‘Paradigm Shift’ in the Body of Messiah
Isaiah 2:3: For The Torah Shall Go Forth From Zion and the Word of the YHVH From Jerusalem
1960’s music legend Bob Dylan sang, “The Times They Are a Changing.” Ever since the Holy Spirit gave me another Dylan song as the title for my book ” A Slow Train Coming”, I have wanted to make contact with Bob Dylan to tell him how prophetic he was, even before he became a Believer in 1975. The Times They Are a Changing was a very true statement in the rapidly changing world of the 1960’s, but it is even more true now in 2015. Life in the western world is changing so fast, that it is hard to keep up with the changes in technology and behaviour. Technology is moving forward at lightning speed and peoples behaviour is moving backwards at almost the same speed.
Over the last 2000 years the Church has often been very resistant and slow to change. Not so today – but sadly the rapid change that is taking place in the Church today is a negative change. Many churches are moving away from Biblical truth, rather than pressing into it. More and more churches are accepting un-Bibilcal sexual behavoiur and same sex relationships, while many churches are standing with the Muslim world against Israel. Most secular people look at the Christians with scorn and disdain and see the Church as totally irrelevant in todays world. There needs to be a paradigm shift in the way the Church operates and presents itself, if it is to fulfiil its calling to seek and save the lost.
I believe that the primary reason for the need of such a major overhaul is that since the 2nd century the Church has been rooted in a ‘Greek’ tree, rather than the Hebraic Olive Tree of Romans 11:17. Much of Church theology and doctrine is based on a Greek understanding of scripture, and not the Hebraic understanding the Paul, Peter and the other true ‘Church fathers’ had. That is where the real paradigm shift needs to take place. Only a Hebraic understanding of the Old Testament leads to the correct understanding of the New Covenant, the nature and character of the God of Israel, and where we are in His prophetic plan to re-establish His Kingdom on the Earth – in Jerusalem. And the opposite is true – not having that Hebraic understanding leads to deception, and thus a weak and ineffective Church.
I also believe that the true Body of Messiah in the nations needs to look to, and reach out to the Body of Messiah in Israel. Now I am not saying we have all of the answers, far from it in fact, but I do believe that YHVH has been raising up the Messianic body since the end of the Six Day War in June 1967. I also believe the the Holy Spirit revealed to me as I was giving a message in the UK in 1998, that the Messianic Jewish part of the Body of Messiah was 30 years old in 1997. Thirty is the age of maturity as a Levite priest. Joseph and Yeshua moved into their destined ministries at age 30, and since 1997 God has been restoring the apostolic calling to nations, to the Messianic Believers in Israel.
The desparately needed paradigm shift for the Church, can and will only come, when the God of Israel is able to speak through His Messianic Jewish apostles to the nations. Of course there is much resistance to this shift at leadership level in the western Church. In multitudes of situations the people know something is wrong or lacking, but the leaders are not usually prepared to open their pulpits to Messianic ministries. As we travel we meet so many who no longer feel comfortable in their church.
However it is a totally different situation in Africa and Asia. Here the pastors are very open and the people are hungry and thirsty for Biblical truth, and they show great respect to the Messianic ministries, referring to us as ‘the older brother.’ It is not that we are looking to be placed on a pedestal, it is the humble hearts of the African and Asian Believers that blesses us and I am sure blesses the God of Israel. Of course we need to be very careful with this, and we Messianic Jews must do our best to seek out the Biblical truth so that we can fulfil our destiny and calling and truly be ‘a light and blessing’ to the nations. This calling carries a great responsibilty as peoples eternal well being is at stake.
That is where you can play a huge part – please make it a part of your regular prayer life to pray that God will continue to raise up the Messianic Jewish part of the Body, and that He will continue to restore the apostolic calling to the Jewish Believers who He is sending out to the nations. And please pray that He will continue to give us fresh revelation from His Word and anoint us to impart that to the Body of Yeshua in the nations, thus bringing about the paradigm shift that is so desparately needed today.
The Lord bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist in the land promised to the Jewish people by the God of Israel. Please pray that
Israel will turn back to their God. Do not be silent at this most strategic time, but please share this.. with all of your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and
with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Please also pray for a major breakthrough to the Muslim world, and remember to pray for all of the soldiers in the IDF. Even though they are not aware of it, they are defending and fighting for the soon coming of the Messiah and the Kingdom of God.
S habbat Shalom …… David & Josie
THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS
1. Israel Carries Out Home Front Drill Arutz 7 May 29th
A nationwide Home Front Command drill simulating conflict on multiple fronts began on Sunday, 31 May, 2015, lasting through the week. On Tuesday, air raid sirens went off across the country at 11:05 a.m. to test school responses to heavy rocket attacks, and again at 7:05 p.m. to prompt civilians to seek cover in preselected safe areas. The exercise is aimed at preparing both the civilian sector and offensive military sites for the scenario of unprecedented projectile attacks on Israel. The exercise is part of the command’s goal of preventing Israel’s enemies from inflicting casualties, preventing basic services, disrupting manufacturing and threatening the ability of the IDF to respond to attacks. Hezbollah’s rocket and missile arsenal of over 100,000 projectiles has a higher number of precision-guided, long range projectiles. The Hamas terrorist group has begun domestic manufacture of rockets in its Gaza weapons factories to replenish stocks following the 50-day conflict with Israel last summer. Please pray that Israel will be fully prepared for whatever the enemy has in store
2. Tony Blair Resigns as Middle East Envoy ICEJ News May 8th
Middle East Quartet (the US, UN, EU, and Russia) envoy Tony Blair announced on Wednesday that after eight years of attempting to promote economic development and institution building in the Palestinian Authority, as well as other measures designed to move forward the so-called “peace process” between Israel and the PA, he will resign his position effective at the end of June. According to a source close to the former British prime minister, Blair remains “completely committed to assisting the international community to bring about progress [in the Israeli-Palestinian diplomatic process], but believes that the best way is without a formal role and by working with key regional players, the US and the EU.” He was warmly praised and his departure deeply regretted by Quartet diplomats and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Please pray that the person who replaces Tony Blair will operate in favour of Israel
3. PM Netanyahu: World Must Back Settlement Construction Israel National News May 29th
PM Netanyahu on Thursday night, 28 May, 2015 addressed the demand of the European Union to restart peace talks with the PA, after EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini this week called for new negotiations. “My position is that there needs to be global backing for construction in the blocs in the settlements,” said Netanyahu, referring to the large concentrations of Jewish communities in Judea & Samaria. The PA recently said it will not restart peace talks on the basis of “settlement blocs,” effectively denying the idea of leaving Jews in Judea & Samaria in the framework of an agreement. Addressing the subject of gradual withdrawal from heavily populated Jewish areas, and communities, Netanyahu said that “After what happened in Gaza due to the disengagement, how will that not repeat itself?” He was referring to how the Hamas terrorist group took control after Israel expelled all Jewish residents in 2005. “Who will deal with the tunnels? Who will deal with the weapons smuggling? The only answer is that Israel must militarily control for years. That’s the only solution.” Please pray that the politicians heed PM Netanyahu’s warning
4. IS Threatens to Attack Israel ICEJ News May 29th
Terrorist gangs in the Egyptian Sinai affiliated with the Islamic State terror militia issued a threat on Thursday to carry out attacks on Eilat, Israel’s southern port on the Red Sea, “in the coming days.” The group also threatened to launch attacks against the Islamist terror militia Hamas which rules the Gaza Strip as well as Egyptian security forces in the Sinai and throughout the country. The threats came on the same day as the Iraqi Ministry of Health announced that they had discovered a mass grave in the city of Tikrit, recently re-taken from IS by government forces. So far, the authorities had exhumed 470 bodies of people believed to have been massacred by IS. Experts estimate that IS executed as many as 17,000 people in Tikrit during its occupation of the city. Please pray
5. Conflicting Reports About Israeli Air Strike Times of Israel News June 2nd
Israel did not attack Lebanese territory on Tuesday, Channel 2 reported Tuesday. Lebanese media outlets had reported that Israeli jets had struck near the city of Brital, inflicting casualties, but the claims were quickly denied Tuesday. According to Lebanese news site el-Nashra, there were multiple Lebanese injuries in two airstrikes near the towns of Brital and Arsal, near the Syrian border. The Lebanese Daily Star also quoted a security source saying an airstrike had taken place. However, Hezbollah’s al-Manar television network denied the accuracy of reports of Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah near the border, but confirmed that Israeli planes had overflown the area on Tuesday and called the overflight a violation of Lebanese sovereignty. The Daily Star later quoted Lebanese security sources denying any airstrikes took place. “There was no attack,” Israel Channel 2 added to the chorus of denials Tuesday. “Not every explosion in Lebanon is Israel.” The IDF declined to comment on the conflicting reports, saying Tuesday it did not comment on foreign news reports. Lebanese state media reported just before the reported strike that Israeli jets were flying at low altitudes over the mountains in the Bekaa region. Please pray for peace & calm to hold on the northern border.
6. IAF Strikes Gaza After 2nd Rocket Attack Times of Israel News June 4th
Israeli Air Force planes bombed three targets in the Gaza Strip after midnight on Thursday, shortly after rockets fired from the Hamas-controlled territory hit southern Israel. The IDF confirmed three airstrikes on “terrorist infrastructure” in the Gaza Strip that scored direct hits. Hamas media reports said one airstrike targeted a Hamas military training ground in the central Gaza Strip and another hit targets in the southern city of Khan Yunis. There were no immediate reports of casualties in the attacks. IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said in a statement that the Israeli military “will act against the aggression, will act against those that wish to terrorize Israel and will act to protect Israelis in the line of indiscriminate Gaza rocket fire.”
Reports just after midnight attributed another explosion near the Gaza City marina to an Israeli airstrike, but Gaza news outlets then said it wasn’t caused by Israeli action. The airstrikes came a few hours after three rockets were shot at southern Israel from the Gaza Strip Wednesday night, sending residents hurrying to bomb shelters for the second time in a little over a week. A Salafist group in the Gaza Strip named the Omar Brigades, which is sympathetic to the Islamic State, claimed responsibility for the rocket fire, Ynet reported. Alarms sounded just before 11 p.m. in the Sdot Negev and Hof Ashkelon regions bordering the northern Gaza Strip, as well as the towns of Netivot and Ashkelon. Police later said three projectiles struck Israel.
Immediately after the rocket attack, politicians from both sides of the aisle called for a firm IDF response to the rising hostilities from the Gaza Strip. “Israel needs to respond aggressively, not just with verbal responses and blowing up empty sand dunes,” Yisrael Beytenu party leader Avigdor Liberman said. Opposition chief Isaac Herzog also demanded an Israeli retaliation, saying that “the sources of [rocket] fire and the enemies of Israel must be attacked with all severity and strength.” The rockets landed in open areas in the Sdot Negev region, according to media reports. There were no injuries reported, the army said. Please pray that those responsibel will be put out of action
7. Tourism industry suffering from a sharp decline in visitors
Israel’s Tourism industry is suffering from an extended downturn which has seen a sharp decline in visitors since last summer’s Operation Protective Edge. According to the Israel Hotel Association, the first quarter of 2015 saw a 28% decline in tourist stays in Israel from the same period last year. “The Protective Edge effect basically began in the first quarter of 2015,” said the manager of one of Israel’s largest tour companies. (But) “It’s not just Protective Edge. The entire Middle East appears to be on fire. Maps of the region seen abroad present Israel as a small island surrounded by Lebanon and what is happening with Syria, Hamas, Yemen, the Islamic state. It’s not easy.” Please pray that there will be a massive turn around in the Israeli tourism sector for the 2nd half of 2015
